The symbol '0' was originally introduced to Mathematics as a placeholder.

A little less than 4000 years ago, the symbol 0 was first known to be introduced into a positional number system by the Babylonians. Cuneiform tablets from the period record, in Sexagesimal , numbers separated by a space. This space represented a power of 60 that was missing. Nothing makes an entrance as a separator.

Around the same time, the Egyptians introduced the hieroglyph for beauty, or complete, as a zero measure. It was used officially used to indicate a zero difference between double entry ledgers. Nothing is a symbol of beauty.
